It has since been hailed as one of the finest victories in Spennymoor Town’s history, but Saturday 12 January’s 3-0 win over Sutton United was special in other ways.
The Brewery Field return of Moors legend Albert Hickman was a highlight for many, who played in the team of the infamous ‘Leatherhead match’ era and celebrated his 70th birthday amongst friends at the game.
Meanwhile, the prestige of the FA Trophy worked its magic with the Moors fans, whose support was fierce and unwavering throughout as the players delivered a performance straight out of Jason Ainsley’s dreams.
This party atmosphere was infectious and found its way into the sponsors’ lounge, which welcomed a group of eight from match sponsors Excelpoint for their first Platinum Club experience. It clearly made a strong first impression, as Managing Director Ian Brown explains:
“We were immediately made to feel welcome as soon as we stepped foot in the ground. We were greeted by the club’s Board Members and offered glasses of champagne in the suite. The pre-match meal was followed by a change in ceremonials as the Manager, Jason Ainsley, came to the Platinum Club to give us some insight on the team, including their preparations for the day’s game and how he saw it playing out, which was an interesting insight.
The match itself was fantastic. The standard of football, particularly some of the attacking moves, seemed worthy of the football league. You should have seen the Moors’ first-half free kick that was just tipped over the bar.
Most of the Excelpoint team are rugby fans, but they thoroughly enjoyed the game – the 3-0 win helping, I’m sure.
After the game, we joined the coaches and players in the players’ bar to enjoy a few drinks and I presented the Man of the Match award to Glen Taylor, who scored a brace to make any striker proud.
This was a fantastic experience to be a part of. It wasn’t just a football game, it was a wonderful day made up of five-star hospitality and five-star football that the Excelpoint team will never forget.
I would highly recommend going along to Spennymoor Town FC and investing in your local community. But, more importantly, investing in a truly dedicated and warm bunch of people. If you are as lucky as I was on the day, you might even be treated to a truly fantastic game of football too. It was an excellent business networking opportunity in a social atmosphere second to none.”
There are still four home games still available to sponsor in the 2018/19 season, plus any remaining home draws in the FA Trophy.
