York goes all-ticket as club provides ground project update

Spennymoor Town’s first home fixture of the season will take place this weekend as Jason Ainsley’s side host table-toppers York City at The Brewery Field.

The club’s ambitious stadium developments are still taking place and this game will be the first played on the club’s new Football League-standard pitch.

Due to the building work ongoing at the South end of the stadium, there is a temporary reduced capacity in place for the York game.  In order to control the amount of people entering the ground, the game is now an all-ticket fixture.  No cash turnstiles will be in operation.

TICKETING

York City have been provided an allocation of 750 tickets, which will be available to purchase through the North Yorkshire club.

Spennymoor tickets will be available to purchase from The Moors Tavern.  There will be no online sales of tickets for either side.

Spennymoor tickets are available from 4PM today (20th August 2019).

NOTICES FOR SUPPORTERS

The South terracing is still under construction and will, therefore, be closed for the York game.  Effectively this makes The Brewery Field a three-sided ground for the match.  This will not affect the amenities such as catering or toilet provision.

The club has been in constant contact with the National League, the Safety Advisory Board and York City to ensure the game goes ahead and the ground is safe for spectators.

This all-ticket format does not affect Spennymoor Town season ticket holders’ entrance to the stadium at all.

The game will not be segregated.

PHASE I DEVELOPMENTS COMPLETE

The two-phase development project at The Brewery Field has reached its half-way point.  Phase one is now complete, which included:

  • The entire playing surface being removed
  • The earth beneath the pitch being improved and prepared
  • Drainage and irrigation being put in
  • 24 sprinklers being installed
  • A reduction in the gradient and levelling of the surface
  • A new pitch being planted and grown
  • The entire perimeter fence of the pitch being removed
  • A new metal perimeter fence being installed around the pitch
  • All South and South West terracing removed
  • New, increased capacity South West terracing installed

The club is pleased to confirm that the ground is now in a position to be able to host competitive football and the independent agronomist who has been consulting on the pitch installation has passed the surface fit to be played on.

PHASE II DEVELOPMENTS UNDERWAY

Now that the essential areas required to host games have been dealt with, the project is moving into its second phase.  This concerns improving the match day experience for supporters of Spennymoor and visiting teams.

The second phase comprises:

  • Installation of the new South terracing.  Completion early to mid-September 2019
  • Installation of an upgraded Tees Crescent Turnstile.  A temporary turnstile will be in place for the York fixture.  Completion early September 2019
  • Complete replacement of all floodlighting.  Completion early September 2019
  • Installation of a new modular clubhouse in the Eastern corner of the ground on the site of the old car park.  Completion early September 2019
  • Partial covering of the South terracing with a new canopy stand.  Completion mid to late-September 2019

AN EXCITING TIME FOR MOORS FANS

Tony Wilson, Managing Director of Spennymoor Town, has thanked Spennymoor and York City fans for their patience ahead of the game.

He said: “This has been an incredibly complex project for a part-time football club to undertake.  It has been a constantly evolving beast which has meant our ability to release updates has been limited.

“We are now in a position where the ground is ready to host matches and the fundamentals have been completed.

“It has been a painful process at times, but is a temporary situation which will benefit the club immeasurably as we look to progress with our five-year plan and take this club where we want to.

“Thank you to our supporters and York supporters for their patience this week and this weekend.  I know once we’re complete there will be a great deal of positivity around the finished article and we are all excited to see how The Brewery Field will look come the end of September.  I think we will all be proud.”
