Glen Taylor’s second half header earned Spennymoor their second straight victory in a frenetic encounter with F.C. United of Manchester.
Moors had been pegged back after leading 2-0 thanks to first half goals from Kallum Griffiths and Andrew Johnson. A Jason Gilchrist header and a fabulous first-time effort from Daniel Wisdom brought the home side level early in the second half.
Taylor decided the game just after the hour when he met Matthew Dixon’s corner and planted a header into the corner. It was the strikers reward for a man of the match performance.
In a first half filled with chances and incident, Moors took the lead with 14 minutes gone when Griffiths free kick took a heavy deflection and wrong-footed Lloyd Allinson.
Griffiths was involved again two minutes later as Moors almost doubled their lead, sending a brilliant cross onto the head of Taylor who flicked his effort just past the post.
Andrew Johnson, who had an opportunity to open the scoring early on, doubled Moors lead just before the half-hour mark after he curled in a shot into the far corner.
It should have been three moments later when David Foley narrowly missed Taylor’s low cross at the back post, then the striker had an effort saved before Ryan Hall’s follow up was blocked on the line.
United pulled one back ten minutes before half time when Jason Gilchrist headed in after Connor McCarthy diverted Joel Logan’s deep ball across goal.
The home side were level soon after the restart when Daniel Wisdom was first to react to Dan Lowson’s excellent save, driving into the top corner.
Moors hung on for the win after Taylor’s header, earning their second straight win in their debut National League season.
