Spenymoor lost their 100% record as they lost 2-0 to table-toppers Brackley Town in a tense affair in Northamptonshire.
Moors lacked the cutting edge they’ve had in the first three games of the season and failed to take advantage of the few chances they created.
Brackley steadily ramped up the pressure as the half grew on, using the wind to put a flurry of dangerous deliveries into the Moors penalty area.
Moors withstood the barrage through combinations of Lowson, Chantler, Tait and Chandler all got in the way of Brackley efforts on goal.
But in the 42nd minute The Saints made the breakthrough when Lee Ndlovu nodded home an Alex Gudger knock-down to send the hosts into the break one up.
Moors created a chance to equalise just after the restart when Griffiths’ looping free kick was acrobatically scissor-kicked goalwards by the airborne Joe Tait, but blocked by goalkeeper Danny Lewis.
Ndlovu almost had a second as another barrage of deliveries into the box saw him rise highest and loop a header off the crossbar.
James Curtis received his marching orders for his second bookable offence in the final minutes, leaving the Moors defence brutally stretched as they continued to search for an equaliser. This was telling in the second goal as The Saints committed numbers to a foray down the right. Jimmy Armson neatly flicked a back-heel return to the darting Lowe, who finished neatly on his left boot as he cut inside the area and put the contest to bed and leave the Spennymoor manager frustrated.
Jason Ainsley said: “We weren’t great at all today. The frustrating thing was that we got out-battled.
“We can’t afford to give so many set plays away, I think they had as many as eight corners in the first half and ended up scoring from one. Attacking wise we weren’t at the races. We didn’t create anywhere near the amount of chances we hoped to.
“We’ve had a great start but we’re under no illusions that this league is very tough. We knew in this league there’d be ups and downs so the focus is now on recovering well for Tuesday.”
