Spennymoor were made to work hard as goals from David Dowson and Ryan Hall secured victory over a well drilled Dunston outfit.
Moors were frustrated in a disjointed and scrappy opening 40 minutes, often giving the ball away and wasting the final pass.
Jake Orrell went close early on, but his curling shot bent just wide of the far post. Dowson, making a rare start in pre-season, then forced Dunston’s keeper into a flying save after he swiveled well and fired towards goal.
The hosts created several half chances but were restricted long range efforts, often seeking to pounce on Spennymoor mistakes, but their promising build-up play lacked an end product.
Dowson broke the deadlock five minutes before the break when he latched on to Anderson’s through ball before calmly slotting beyond the keeper.
Alan White and Tommy Miller, in the absence of manager Jason Ainsley, made four changes around the hour mark, introducing the quartet of Joe Tait, Ryan Hall, David Foley and Glen Taylor.
Two of those subs linked up to create Spennymoor’s second goal, as Glen Taylor flicked on to Ryan Hall who raced through and slipped the ball under the keeper.
Hall had the oppurtunity to double his personal tally and make it three soon after, but he couldn’t repeat his efforts as Dunston’s keeper saved well.
Foley struck the post late on as Moors superior fitness levels began to be apparant, but they were unable to add to their two goal tally.
Moors play their final game of pre-season on Saturday afternoon when they make the trip to Scotland to face Penicuik Athletic.
