Spennymoor Town can announce their retained list for the 2018/19 National League North season:
Retained list for 2018/19:
Option taken on:
OPTED NOT TO SIGN:
Kallum Griffiths and Joe Tait were offered improved deals but chose to move on for their own reasons.
Option not taken on:
Nathan Lowe (returning to parent club)
Adam Curry (returning to parent club)
Christopher Mason has agreed to re-sign on a one year deal offered to him by the club.
Moors boss Jason Ainsley spoke after the announcement: “It was a very difficult decision for Tommy Miller and myself to not take up the option to retain some of the squad.
“We felt it was the right decision to let Chris Chantler, Jordan Porter and Matthew Dixon move on. They have been fantastic professionals and have never missed a training session despite the considerable travel.
“They were unable to force their way into the team towards the back end of the season and we wish them every success in their next venture.
“Dan Lowson has been a tremendous servant to the club and has been instrumental in getting the club to where it is now, but we still feel that the goalkeeping department is an area that we need to strengthen.
“We have given Dan the option to stay on a new deal if he wishes to do so.
“Bradley Fewster has suffered from a lack of opportunities and hasn’t had a run in the team with the way we set up last season. We haven’t took his option up but have offered him a revised deal, so we will await his decision.
“Joe Tait has unfortunately not decided to take up a new deal the club offered. Since he joined, he has been part of squads which have gained three promotions and he has played a pivotal role in that.
“We wish him all the best as he looks to pursue other opportunities and a fresh start elsewhere.
“As well as Joe, Kallum Griffiths has also not opted to stay on with the club after nine years. He has been with myself and the chairman for so long he has been part of the family.
Unfortunately, Kallum has decided he wishes to go out and play full-time football with York City, which is something we couldn’t offer him at Spennymoor, but I know he leaves the club with a heavy heart. He has been an outstanding servant for this football club.
“Finally, we have opted against offering a contract to Greg Rutherford after he had a short spell with us at the end of last season.
“He is a terrific lad and we all wish him well for the future.
“We are delighted to say that Chris Mason has agreed to stay at the club for another year, meaning that Chris is in his 10th season with the club. He enjoyed an excellent first season in the National League North and we are delighted he has extended his deal.”
