Defender Callum Williams has joined Spennymoor Town from Newcastle United.
Williams, 21, has been brought in from Tyneside where he featured heavily for their Under 23 squad under the guidance of Peter Beardsley.
The right back, who can also play centrally, had two separate loan spells at National League side Gateshead.
Williams spoke of his delight upon signing for the club: “I’m excited beyond belief to get started. Jay gave me a call when he got my number from a scout called Terry Kirkbride who I have known since I was around 10 years old. I went and met him and Tommy the next day.
“What they said was everything I wanted to hear and everything that I needed as well. They sold the club straight away and I thought I want to be part of something like that.
“It’s definitely a fresh start. It’s something what I’ve needed for the past few years I think. I’ve been stuck in a rut at Newcastle so I can’t wait for the chance to play in games that matter.”
Moors boss Jason Ainsley said: “Callum is a fantastic signing for us with lots of other clubs chasing his signature. When I met him for the first time I knew he was the perfect fit and had the right attitude to hopefully get back into full time football.
“He was a regular for the Newcastle United Under 23 squad last term, playing 33 games for Peter Beardsley’s side before enjoying a very successful loan spell in the National League with Gateshead.”
