OUr Projects

Take a look through some of the key projects currently being delivered by Moors in the Community to find out how they benefit the local area and how you could take part or volunteer.

MD Ballers

Our football classes are aimed at younger children aged 3-7 years. The focus is to develop fundamental movement components alongside the progression of
cognitive, social and emotional skills.

Sessions are football based with elements of balance, agility, running, jumping,
kicking etc. Furthermore, children will develop their listening skills and improve their ability to follow instructions.

Most importantly, the focus of Baby Ballers is for the child to have fun.

School Sport Delivery

School Sport Delivery

We have recently launched our School Sport Delivery sessions for local primary and secondary schools across Spennymoor and the surrounding areas.

The sessions are mainly football-focused – however, we do offer various types of multi-sport activities for the youngsters to enjoy to help encourage as many children as possible to take part in physical activity and exercise.

We have been seeking to further enhance our already strong relationship with the local primary and secondary schools by providing an extra service from which they benefit from when they partner with their local football club.

We have numerous different options available and schools can select where they see Moors in the Community being able to offer assistance:

  • Breakfast Clubs
  • Lunchtime Supervision
  • After-School Clubs
  • 1-2-1 Coaching with team

We are also able to cater for special events such as school fairs and other fundraising initiatives.

Disability Football

Disability Football

Our Disability Football sessions are designed to encourage children aged 7 to 16 with learning disabilities and Autism to participate in physical activity and exercise, with a football-based focus.

Each session is designed to improve key footballing ability and social skills inside a safe and welcoming environment.

Our casual sessions are also tailed to provide enjoyment one day a week with the hope to one day move towards having our own Disability Football Team representing Spennymoor Town!

With support through funding from project sponsors, Guardian Alliance, as well as the National League Trust, we are able to offer affordable football for all on a weekly basis.

We run the sessions 48 weeks of the year with no breaks for the school holidays meaning we can offer maximum amount of fun and enjoyment for the minimum cost!

Community Meals & Warm Hub

Our Community Meals Programme is based within The Brewery Field and supplies elderly residents across the area with a hot meal and dessert three times a week.

The project has been a huge success with over 30 meals going out daily to residents in Spennymoor and surrounding areas.

This massive success story has sparked an interest in the project extending and offering a Thursday as an extra day to receive a meal, so work is ongoing to make that a reality now.

We hope that the project ensures that users receive a high-quality meal for minimal cost, improving the nutrients intake of elderly residents and relieving the stress of busy family members.

Throughout the winter months we have launched our Warm Hub Project based at The Brewery Field, where anyone can come and utilise our facilities on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and soon to be Thursdays.

These run alongside our Community Takeaway where attendees can enjoy a warm meal should they wish. If a meal isn’t for them, then they can enjoy our facilities including a Pool Table, Dart Board, multiple board games and three flat screen TVs.

The project has been launched to encourage people to reduce their gas and electricity bills by turning appliances off and using ours instead!

Youth Engagement Sessions

Our Youth Engagement Sessions are projects that we run in partnership with Spennymoor Youth & Community Centre to provide a safe environment for young people aged from 6 to 16 years old.

Moors in the Community are responsible for running the sessions alongside fellow youth workers to provide multi-sport activities, as well as arts and crafts.

We currently have two sessions running weekly for the two different age groups and we’ve enjoying a growing group of regular youngsters attending the sessions.

The project is striving to provide a safe and welcoming environment for young people across the area to improve social skills and help to reduce anti-social behaviour in Spennymoor.

Over 50s Walking Football

Our Over 50s Walking Football is one of the most successful, enjoyable and rewarding projects we operate here at Moors in the Community.

We currently have two casual sessions which are open to any male or female, regardless of ability, on a Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 10am until 11am. We have also added an extra session on a Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 3pm at Spennymoor Leisure Centre.

When we first started the project, we had two players attend the first session. Fast forward less than a year and we have now attracted 25 more who are attending weekly sessions on both the Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

Should you impress at the casual sessions, you may be invited to join our Over 60s Walking Football Team who now play regular fixtures in a competitive league!

Breakfast Buddies

Breakfast Buddies is a project that we have developed in partnership with Spennymoor Youth & Community Centre to provide a safe space for males aged 18 and over.

The lads that attend enjoy a FREE bacon or sausage sandwich and unlimited tea and coffees during the sessions, which are hosted at Spennymoor Youth & Community Centre for the first three weeks of the month, with the final week taking place at The Brewery Field.

When at the Youth & Community Centre, they are able to participate in sporting activities in their sports hall or sit and socialise with their friends.

This project was created with the goal of having a positive impact on men’s mental health, as well as improving the attendees’ social skills and combatting obesity.

Sessions take place every Monday between 10am and 2pm.
