We caught up with Moors boss Jason Ainsley after last night’s 6-0 victory over West Auckland in the squad’s second friendly of pre season.
He was in good spirits after watching a sumptuous attacking display, which showed the depths of talent he has at his disposal this season.
“I felt we were much better than last week. We had only had a session the night before Stockton and were playing in red hot heat on astroturf, but I was disappointed with the performance regardless last week.
“But tonight on a lovely pitch in perfect weather I thought we got it down and knocked it about. We played some really attractive football with great energy levels. Certainly no disrespect to West Auckland but their goalkeeper Bell was outstanding to keep the score down. It genuinely could have been double figures.
“I’m delighted with where we are at the moment. We had a really tough fitness session at Castle Eden on Saturday and the lads have responded tonight and put on a bit of a show with some great goals.
“That said, it’s early days. We need to keep working hard and be more clinical. At times we were sloppy in possession tonight. But, that said, this was only our second game of pre season so I’m delighted with the effort and the lads have done really well.
“The news lads have done really well. We had a good group last year but it was important to strengthen. You don’t get carried away with friendlies, just as I didn’t get carried away with the Stockton game last week, but we’re in a great position and I’m happy with where we are ahead of a trip to Tadcaster on Saturday.”
