5 REASONS TO WATCH
MOORS FACE DARLINGTON

1

START THE NEW YEAR RIGHT

It’s time to leave the 2010’s behind, and what a decade it has been for Spennymoor Town and everyone associated with the football club. From multiple Northern League titles at the very start of the decade, to a double promotion between 2015 and 2017, the memories have been endless. We have enjoyed two and a half seasons in the National League North, with iconic victories and amazing days aplenty.
Now it’s time to see the new decade in against Darlington, our neighbours who inflicted defeat on us at Blackwell Meadows on Boxing Day. The result may have not been what we wanted against Gateshead at The Brewery Field last Saturday, but the red hot atmosphere was something to cherish. Over 1500 people packed in to enjoy our new look stadium, and we expect even more to join us for the New Year’s Day clash!

IT’S THE DERBY THAT ISN’T A DERBY…

Is it a derby? Geographically, Moors and Darlington are close enough to class this as derby, but there has been much discussion between fans down the years over the rivalry between the two clubs. Putting that aside, it’s always a game full of passion and incident. Regularly attracting crowds of over 1500 at both grounds, the fact it is New Year’s Day is sure to crank the atmosphere up another notch.
There have been some cracking games between the two sides in the past too, however, positive memories are in short supply for Moors. The Quakers have regularly managed to get the better of us down the years, but with the arrival of a new decade, it’s time to change that! Check out some of our previous meetings below!

our sports bar is up and running

The Neil Adams Sports Bar officialy opened on Saturday 21st December, the day that Moors faced Bradford (Park Avenue) in the National League North. Aside from a terrific 3-0 win which saw us begin the festive period on a high note, it was a memorable day away from the pitch too. Following a successful open day at the end of November, it was the first time the bar would be welcoming in over 1000 fans on a match day.
It’s safe to say it is already the new pre-match home for both home and away fans on a match day, boasting pints from just £2.20 to live football on BT Sport. Supporters have provided us with superb feedback, and some would happily stay all night after the game to reflect on the 90 minutes just passed. This is just the beginning too! The Sports Bar opens at 1.30pm!

WATCH THE NORTH EAST’S FINEST

Mark Carruthers recently selected his North East team of the decade  for the Sunday Sun newspaper. With the endless list of names that could find their way into the 16-man squad, only the very best could be chosen. Moors proudly boast three current players, with defender James Curtis and strikers Gavin Cogdon and Glen Taylor making the starting eleven.
And of course, who could forget our gaffer. Jason Ainsley has been in charge for every game of the decade, securing Northern League titles, cups, promotions and praise from the North East and beyond. There was no other choice. You can witness the magic for yourself at the game on Wednesday!

Spennymoor Town is advancing its strategy to create more links with businesses and the community.  If you’re a business or community organisation who would like to get on board with the club’s exciting journey and be a part of the Pride of County Durham, please contact Jonny Cope, Commercial Manager on [email protected].
