Dan Ward has left Spennymoor Town and will return to full-time football with Irish Premier Division side St Patrick’s Athletic FC.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined Moors in June 2019 following the expiration of his contract at Middlesbrough. He has started nine games and made seven substitute appearances in the 2019/20 campaign.
After a promising start to his career at The Brewery Field, Ward suffered a hamstring injury in the early stages of the 5-0 win over Blyth Spartans in September, ruling him out for over a month.
Ward was struck with the same injury earlier this month when he was substituted in the first half of the 5-1 win over Sunderland RCA in the Durham Challenge Cup.
Manager Jason Ainsley said: “Dan started the season very well, but unfortunately, due to his ongoing hamstring niggles he couldn’t establish himself in the team on a regular basis.
“I always promised him that if a full time club came in for him I wouldn’t stand in his way, and I think going to St Patrick’s is a brilliant opportunity for him at this stage of his career.
“Dan is a lovely lad and a very good footballer who I am sure will do extremely well back in the full time environment of training everyday. I wish him nothing but success.”
Everyone at Spennymoor Town Football wishes Dan the best of luck for his future.
