Moors bring in experienced goalkeeper Norton

Experienced goalkeeper Jack Norton has signed for the club ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Norton, 33, has been training with the club over the last month and played 45 minutes in a pre-season friendly against Newton Aycliffe in August.

The shot-stopper started out at Darlington where he turned professional following a three-year scholarship.

Since leaving the Quakers, Norton has had spells with the likes of Gateshead, Blyth Spartans, Whitby Town, Consett, Bedlington Terriers, Newcastle Blue Star and Guisborough Town.

After a break from the game through injury, a move to London saw him have spells with Hampton & Richmond Borough and then in League Two with Dagenham & Redbridge.

Short spells with Cray Wanderers, Witham Town and Brentwood Town followed before he took up an opportunity to play in Iceland with UMF Sindri.

He joined Ebac Northern League First Division side Dunston UTS before making the switch to South Shields in August 2017.

Norton joins Moors having recently played for Northern Premier League Division One North West side Marske United.

After joining the club, Norton said: “I am looking forward to a new challenge and to being part of a club which is constantly moving forward.

“Spennymoor has taken big strides in recent years and I want to be part of a team and a club that is showing massive ambitions.

“After training with the club over the past few weeks and meeting the squad I knew that this was the place I wanted to be.”
