Report: West Auckland 0-4 Spennymoor Town

Spennymoor scored twice in each half to secure a second pre-season victory at The Wanted Stadium against Northern League side West Auckland.

Tommy Miller, having watched Moors perform admirabley against League One Sunderland AFC on Saturday, named a strong starting XI which included three trialists.

Despite former Moors striker David Dowson going close early on, it was Ryan Hall, who is now into his fifth season with the club, who opened the scoring.

The winger ran through on goal and kept his composure to slide Moors into a lead just five minutes into the contest.

Hall was denied by the West shot stopper shortly after before the hosts almost drew level, with Dowson and Adam Mitchell both squandering chances.

Frank Mulhern had two opportunities to grab his third goal of pre-season but was denied by the goalkeeper before firing over from close range.

As the half-time interval approached, a flowing team move finally carved out the crucial second goal, with Hall finishing after a sublime Mark Anderson pass.

Changes were made at the break, with the trio of Glen Taylor, John Lufudu and Carl Magnay entering the action.

Taylor was immediately involved, winning a penalty just two minutes after being introduced. The striker dispatched the spot kick with his usual accuracy as Moors began to dominate proceedings.

Fellow half-time substitute Lufudu helped himself to his first goal for the club past the hour mark, driving down the right before cutting inside and curling a delicious effort over the West keeper.

As the home side began to tire in the latter stages, Moors had chances aplenty to extend an already healthy advantage, but, Taylor, Hall, Rob Ramshaw and Anderson all missed chances to add gloss to the scoreline.

Moors are next in action on Tuesday 13 July against Doncaster Rovers at The Brewery Field.
