The Brewery Field to host free NHS fitness courses

Spennymoor Town Football Club is delighted to be working with the GF Community Foundation to improve Health and Wellbeing in the local community.

The club has engaged with the NHS Sedgefield North Integrated Care Service to bring a free eight-week ‘Drop-a-Jean-Size’ course to The Brewery Field.

The announcement comes only months after Moors’ Supporters Club raised £1027 for the NHS, and only weeks since Spennymoor Town legend and Head of Strength and Conditioning, Gavin Cogdon, completed a 24-hour burpee challenge to fund a Health & Wellbeing programme for local communities in County Durham.

The course aims to provide a long-lasting health legacy in the local area beyond the initial eight-week NHS offering.

Ian Geldard, Community Impact Manager for Spennymoor in the GF Community Foundation, said: “This is a great step to enhancing the overall health and wellbeing of people in our town, and shows both the Foundation and club’s commitment to improving the lives of everyone in our community”.

Matthew Hannon, General Hospitality Manager, said: “We are excited to work in partnership with the GFCF and the local NHS to bring this course to the Brewery Field. We are committed to increasing community use of the club’s facilities throughout the week”

The NHS Course

The course provides attendees the opportunity to embark on the first steps to fitness without any strict diets or time-consuming workouts.

Across the eight weeks you will:

–              Learn how to lose weight without giving up the food and drink you love

–              Identify how to be more active without long or difficult workouts

–              Build confidence in your body and mind without obsessing about the number on the scales

–              Develop positive lifestyle habits which give you the energy to thrive each day

–              Be part of a supportive and motivating environment with likeminded others

The course will take place in the County Durham Lounge – home of the ultimate non-league match day experience – and will run on Thursdays from 24th February. Attendees can pick an hour time-slot that suits them from 12:45pm, 2pm, or 6:15pm.
