Moors Ladies In League Action On Sunday

Moors Ladies will be in action for the second time this season on Sunday when they take on West Allotment Celtic at the Houghall Campus of EDC in Durham.

The opening day of the season earlier this month was a tough one for new boss Billy Shackleton who saw his side beaten by a stoppage time winner in a dramatic 3-2 defeat at Hartlepool United.

“We’ve looked at what went wrong against Hartlepool and worked hard in training to ensure we see an improvement,” explained Shackleton.

“After looking over the footage from the game, it’s frustrating that we came away with nothing, but we will regroup and hopefully get our season up and running against West Allotmment.”

The feisty encounter with Pools also came at a cost to Moors, with summer signing set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury late in the game at Grayfields.

Drew Seymour, who was on target on the opening day, is also unavailable, while skipper Alex Saunders and Monica Kisicka are both missing as Moors’ squad depth is examined.

Thankfully, Shackleton is boosted by the return of Autumn College, who is in contention to make her first appearance of the campaign after top scoring during Moors’ pre-season schedule.

Visitors, West Allotment have had a mixed start to the new NERWFL campaign, suffering a heavy defeat to Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves before responding with a convincing victory over Gainsborough.

“We’ve no doubt that this will be another really tough game for us,” added Shackleton.

“But we’ve had some time since our first game to get down to work and fully prepare for this weekend so hopefully we can see the benefit of that in a strong performance.

“It was fantastic so see so many Moors fans backing the team at Hartlepool so the girls and I can’t wait to see even more of you cheering us on this Sunday.”

Kick-off on Sunday is 2pm and admission at the Houghall Campus of EDC in Durham is free.
