Jason Ainsley has moved to strengthen his squad with the arrival of young goalkeeper Giosue Bellagambi on loan from Championship side Huddersfield Town.
The 20-year-old Ugandan international has been with The Terriers since the summer of 2018 when they spotted the Croydon-born youngster starring between the posts for Lambeth Tigers.
Bellagambi went on to become a regular for Huddersfield’s Under-17s and also played for the club’s Under-19s during the 2019/20 campaign as he continued his development.
Having attended goalkeeping camps for both England and Italy since joining Town, the promising shot-stopper received a first senior call-up for Uganda’s national team for their 2023 AFCON qualifiers during the summer.
Bellagambi has also gained some senior experience from loan spells at Ramsbottom United, Ebbsfleet United, Brighouse Town and Stalybridge Celtic, while earlier this season he spent time with Hyde United.
“Gio is a big, physical unit who is very good technically,” explained Jamie Chandler, part of the Club’s current interim management team.
“He is the kind of goalkeeper who always looks to play out from the back, he’s been progressing really well at Huddersfield, and he’s just had a good loan spell at Hyde too.
“He’s got a little bit of experience, so he knows about the physicality of the division and he’s another goalkeeper into the squad to add that competition alongside Harry Flatters.
“We’re looking forward to working with Gio and we thank Huddersfield Town for their help in getting the deal done and allowing him to come to us.”
Bellagambi, whose loan with Moors will run until 2nd January 2023, will take up the vacant Number 1 shirt and, subject to the relevant FA clearance, will be available for Saturday’s National League North game against Buxton.
