Report: Moors 0 Buxton 1

Moors fell to their first home defeat of the season as Connor Kirby scored the only goal of the game to help Buxton take away all three points from their visit to The Brewery Field.

Even a penalty save on his debut from young Moors keeper Gio Bellagambi could not prevent the side from the loss as Buxton earned their first away win since promotion to National League North.

There was a flat start to the game, but things burst into life on 16 minutes when James Curtis was adjudged to have fouled his man in the area and Buxton were awarded a penalty. Skipper Sean Newton took responsibility from the spot, but his low drive brilliantly turned round the post by Bellagambi, who only joined Moors on loan from Huddersfield Town this week.

However, it was only brief respite as just two minutes later a flighted ball in from the left was headed on goal by Scott Boden and Bellagambi made another heroic save, only for the rebound to drop kindly for the visitors and it was nodded back across the link for Kirby to bundle home.

Glen Taylor then saw a thunderous effort superbly tipped over by Bucks keeper Theo Richardson, before Elliot Forbes – on for the injured Jo Cummings – had a header cleared off the line.

Moors front man Taylor got another sight of goal on the half hour after an incisive pass from Scott Duxbury but this time his shot took a deflection as it bounced over the bar.

The visitors started the second half better and debutant Sam Osbourne forced another good save from Bellagambi before the same player then wriggled into space to fire a low shot just wide.

Moors’ best chance to level came 12 minutes from time when Duxbury lifted an inviting cross from the left into the far post, but Thewlis sent his header too high, and Buxton were off the hook.

Buxton could have added gloss to their victory near the end when Newton flashed a free kick on goal from 25 yards but, it swerved just wide of Bellagambi’s upright, while the keeper was also called upon to make a big save injury time to prevent substitute Jason Gilchrist scoring the second goal.
