Moors Bow Out Of FA Youth Cup

Moors Under-18s saw their brilliant FA Youth Cup run come to an end against Barnsley on Friday night as they were beaten 5-0 at Oakwell.

The impressive hosts, who top the Under-18 Professional Development League, proved too much for the young Moors and the game was all but over inside 30 minutes in South Yorkshire.

Barnsley looked in the mood from the first kick and were in front within a minute when Theo Chapman burst into the penalty area and lashed a shot into the net for 1-0.

It was 2-0 on 11 minutes when Josh McKay’s hanging cross from the right was superbly headed back across goal and into the corner of the net by Josiah Dyer.

Joe Naylor saw a looping header held by the Barnsley keeper before the home side extended their lead further on 15 minutes – this time McKay drilled a fine finish into the bottom corner after Moors failed to deal with a low ball in from the left.

Four minutes later, The Tykes added a fourth. Alex Anaman was played in down the right of the area, and he cleverly tucked back inside onto his left foot to flash a low shot into the far bottom corner.

Barnsley were rampant and snatched a fifth on 27 minutes as Dyer showed strength and skill to find room to lash a shot into the roof of the net from the left side of the six-yard area.

Charlie Twinn and Charlie Upperton both tried their luck at the other end as Moors, to their credit, showed real spirit and kept on going.

The youngsters could have pulled a goal back at the start of the second half when Joe Naylor got on the end of a great delivery from the right, but he directed his header too high at the far post.

Half time substitute Sam Tall almost scored in spectacular fashion when his cross from the right took a deflection and looped over Barnsley keeper Rogan Ravenhill but the cross bar came to the home side’s rescue, and they survived.

Moors kept on going and had another opportunity to grab a consolation on 77 minutes when a free-kick into the box was headed on goal by Harry Laviolette but his looping effort dropped just over the bar.
