Lily Walker Joins Moors Ladies

Moors Ladies have added extra strength to their midfield options after winning the race to sign highly rated youngster Lily Walker.

The 16-year-old has been drawing attention from a number of clubs after starring for Sunderland Foundation of Light Under-21s, but Moors boss Billy Shackleton has moved quickly to seal the deal.

“I’m over the moon to be able to announce Lily as a Spennymoor player,” admitted Shackleton.

“She is a great girl with bags of talent and will add depth to our midfield where she can help us in every phase of play with her defensive work and attacking ability.

“I know there were a host of local clubs interested so I am delighted she’s chosen to sign for Moors, and I would like to think that says a lot about what we’re trying to build here.

“She’s still only 16 but it will be great to watch her develop in the coming years.”

The talented youngster made her Moors debut from the bench during Sunday’s 5-2 win over Pools Youth and is now keen to kick-on with the club as she makes the step into senior football.

“I’m pleased to be joining Spennymoor as I know the Club and this management team has a great track record for bringing through young players,” Walker added.

“They have a strong squad with a good level of coaching, and it feels like a good club to further my career.

“I’ve enjoyed the sessions I have had with Spennymoor so far and the girls have already made me feel welcome, so I am looking forward to getting on the pitch and helping Moors achieve their ambitions this season.”
