Ladies Ready For Brewery Field Test

It’s set to be an absolute cracker at The Brewery Field on Sunday as Moors Ladies play host to league-leaders Washington in the NERWFL Northern Division (2pm kick-off).

Boss Billy Shackleton will be hoping that home advantage and playing at the main stadium can attract a big crowd and inspire a big performance from his in-form players.

Moors are flying high at the moment, unbeaten in the league in six and knowing that a victory over Washington on Sunday would take them two points behind their visitors with two games in hand.

Having been frustrated by a frozen pitch which forced the postponement of last weekend’s game at Wallsend, Shackleton’s side will hope to benefit from the rest and be ready to go on Sunday.

“It’s quite frustrating looking at the table because we’re fifth but we’ve played the least games of anyone in the division,” he told us.

“We know that if we can put together a good run, beating sides like Washington, then realistically we can fight for this league title so we just have to keep up the momentum.

“The atmosphere at The Brewery Field can honestly give us an edge; it’s a cliché but the girls really do find that extra gear and it means so much to have our fans behind us.”

Shackleton is without skipper Alex Saunders for the weekend action, while Julia McGovern is still not quite ready for a return as she battles back from an ankle injury.

Spennymoor Town Ladies will face one of their toughest tests this season as they prepare to face table topping Washington on Sunday. Moors will be buoyed by the location of the game, with the ladies aiming to pack out the Brewery Field for the third time this season in their quest for a league title and promotion.

Kick-off at The Brewery Field on Sunday is 2pm and admission is just £3, while Under-12s can attend for free when accompanied by an adult.

You can buy tickets online in advance right now by clicking here, but cash and card turnstiles will also be in operation on the day.
