Doncaster Duo Join Spennymoor On Loan

Moors have completed a double deal to bring in Doncaster Rovers duo Bobby Faulkner and Liam Ravenhill to The Brewery Field on a month’s loan.

Jason Ainsley has been working hard behind the scenes to further improve his squad as he looks to juggle a hectic schedule in the coming weeks as well as some injury concerns.

Centre-back Faulkner, 18, is a product of Rovers’ Academy and he signed his first professional contract with the club in November 2021 whilst still a first-year scholar.

The Norton-born prospect gained senior experience when he enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Frickley Athletic in 2021/22, before making a First Team breakthrough at Doncaster earlier this term.

Faulkner came off the bench to make his debut in the 2-1 win over Sutton United on the opening day before making his first senior start in the 1-0 triumph at Northampton Town at the end of August.

The youngster, who also spent a spell training with Manchester United to aid his development in November before a loan spell at Worksop Town in December was cut short by a fractured jaw.

“Bobby is a player who we’ve been aware of for some time,” explained Moors boss Ainsley.

“At the beginning of the season he was starting for Doncaster which shows you the pedigree and the talent he has.

“He’s a throwback of a centre-half who loves to make tackles and win his battles in the air, and he has an old head on young shoulders, so we’re pleased to have him on board.”

Meanwhile, Ravenhill is a 20-year-old midfielder who has been on the books at Doncaster for 12 years having joined the club’s Academy in 2011.

Highly rated by the Rovers hierarchy, Ravenhill made his senior debut for the club whilst still a scholar when came off the bench during their 5-1 FA Cup win over FC United in November 2020.

The talented youngster was handed his first professional deal in the summer of 2021 and gained further senior experience during loan stays at Mickleover and AFC Telford United.

Ravenhill then returned to Doncaster where he made his EFL bow as a substitute in Rovers’ 1-0 League One win over Shrewsbury Town in December 2021.

A Northern Ireland Under-21 international, the midfield man spent a short period on loan with Blyth Spartans earlier this term and will now be keen to make his mark at The Brewery Field.

“Liam had a very good loan at Blyth earlier in the season and was the standout player in their draw with Wrexham in the FA Cup,” Ainsley told us.

“He’s a high-energy midfielder who has good quality on the ball.

“I know that he’s thought about highly at Doncaster so, just like Bobby, we’re delighted to have been able to bring him to the Club.

“I would like to thank Doncaster for all their help in making the deals happen too; we’ve very grateful for their support.”

Faulkner has been handed number 23 while Ravenhill will wear 27, and both players are now in contention to make their Moors debuts in Saturday’s National League North game at Chester.
