Ladies Aim To Impress At Brewery Field

It’s a Friday night under the lights at The Brewery Field for Moors Ladies as they play host to Guisborough Town in the NERWFL Northern Division (7pm kick-off).

Following last Sunday’s hard-fought draw against Norton & Stockton Ancients Reserves, Moors face a different type of challenge on Friday as they come up against a Guisborough side fighting to stay in the division.

Billy Shackleton’s side ran out 4-1 winners when the teams met at Guisborough earlier in the season and now they have eyes on clinching a double which could help keep their promotion hopes alive.

Moors are now 10 league games unbeaten in a sequence which stretches all the way back to October and go into Friday’s game in third position, but just five points behind table-topping Wallsend.

Now they’re hoping that a bumper crowd of Moors fans can come along to cheer them on at The Brewery Field as they approach the business end of their campaign with just nine games remaining.

“Myself, the staff and the girls are buzzing for this game,” admitted Shackleton.

“The league gave us the option to play on the Friday night to avoid clashing with Newcastle in the Cup Final on Sunday and the Club then moved to put the game on at The Brewery Field.

“It will be a massive occasion for everyone and hopefully we can plenty of people through the turnstiles to show them what Spennymoor Town Ladies are all about.”

The Moors boss should have a strong squad to choose from this weekend after Holly Middleton proved her fitness with a substitute appearance last Sunday and Julia McGovern closing in on a return after an ankle injury.

“It’s a Friday night and, of course, we want to enjoy ourselves but we need to ensure that we do that by getting the three points,” Shackleton added.

“Putting on a game at The Brewery Field isn’t as simple as people may think but the Club was really keen to stage the fixture and I think that’s testament to how well the girls have been performing this season and how tight-knit this Club is as a whole right now.”

Tickets for Friday night’s game are priced at just £3 for adults and free for Under-12s – you can buy them now online by clicking here.
