Preview: Gloucester City v Moors

We take a closer look at this weekend’s action with a full and in-depth preview of Moors’ National League North trip to The TigerTurf Stadium.

Gloucester City v Spennymoor Town
Saturday 25th February 2023, 3pm
National League North
The TigerTurf Stadium

In Opposition
Gloucester City sit 10th in the National League North table ahead of this weekend’s action but Moors make the trip with the added incentive of knowing a victory would see them leapfrog their hosts.

The Tigers finished in the bottom half last term and made a change after just ten games of the current campaign when Steven King arrived to succeed Lee Mansell in the hotseat.

King oversaw some brilliant form during his early weeks in charge but their challenge for the play-offs has been frustrated by a number of draws recently – they’ve shared the points in six of their last 10 outings.

However, they are undefeated in their last five on home soil with the 6-2 defeat against Darlington in December the last time they suffered a loss on their own patch.

One To Watch
Dominic McHale has been in excellent form for Gloucester City in recent weeks and Moors will have to keep a close eye on the midfielder when the sides meet on Saturday.

January’s National League North Player of the Month has hit the net eight times in as many games, scoring twice in their 5-1 destruction of Bradford (Park Avenue) at the beginning of the month.

A former Manchester City youngster, McHale has played in the colours of South Shields, Ashton United, AFC Telford United and Radcliffe in recent years before joining Gloucester in November.

Head To Head
Saturday’s game will be the seventh competitive meeting between the sides and Moors have had the better of it in the previous six encounters having won three of them.

Goals from Dylan Boyle, Glen Taylor and Mark Anderson ensured a brilliant 3-0 triumph for Jason Ainsley’s men when the teams met at The Brewery Field at the beginning of November.

However, Moors were beaten on their last trip to The TigerTurf Stadium in December 2021 in a bad-tempered encounter which saw three players shown red cards.

On The Whistle
The referee for Saturday’s game at The TigerTurf Stadium is Matthew Scholes, and he will be assisted by Lewis Mansfield-King and Brandon Scaife.

Tickets
Moors fans are advised to buy in advance online where possible for Saturday’s game but Gloucester will be operating cash turnstiles ahead of kick-off on the day too.
