Ladies Turn Focus To Thornaby

With the memory of last Friday night’s 8-0 victory fresh in the mind, Spennymoor Town Ladies travel to Teesdale Park on Sunday to face league rivals Thornaby (2pm kick-off).

The meeting will be the first between the two sides this season with Moors looking for another win to enhance their promotion chances as the business end of the season approaches.

Hosts Thornaby are expected to be a tough opponent for Spennymoor though, and will be looking to inflict a first defeat on their visitors since October.

Billy Shackleton’s side will go into the game on a high after their impressive win over Guisborough at The Brewery Field last Friday and hope to continue that goalscoring form after recent draws with Norton and Washington.

Moors Ladies remain in third place in the NERWFL Northern Division and will hope to trim the five-point gap currently enjoyed by leaders Wallsend this weekend.

“We need to take that performance we put in against Guisborough and turn our focus on Thornaby,” said Shackleton.

“They are a team we identified as one of the best in the division during pre-season and, whilst their season hasn’t perhaps gone to plan so far, we know they’ve got the quality to get a result against most sides.

“We need to be really on top of our game on Sunday if we want to get the result.”

Shackleton is set to have almost a full squad to choose from once again this weekend and is boosted by the return of Julia McGovern who is back in contention after ankle trouble.

Sunday’s game at Teesdale Park on Acklam Road is a 2pm kick-off and regular admission is £3 and Under-12s are £1.
