Gateshead Next Up For Moors Ladies

Moors Ladies will play host to Gateshead at New Ferens Park in Durham on Sunday as they look to maintain their momentum in the race for promotion from NERWFL Northern Division (2.15pm kick-off).

Billy Shackleton’s side have been frustrated by a series of postponements in recent weeks and will be determined to make up for lost time when they welcome their Tyneside rivals this weekend.

It will be the first time Moors have been in action since their stunning 8-0 win over Guisborough Town at The Brewery Field at the end of last month and their third meeting of the season with Gateshead.

The previous meeting came in October when Moors exacted some revenge with a 4-1 triumph in the Durham County Cup after losing to The Heed Army in the league in September.

That 3-2 loss remains the last time that Moors have tasted defeat and their long unbeaten sequence since then has taken them right into the frame for promotion this term.

They sit fourth in the table but just five points behind leaders Hartlepool United with three games in hand, but they know that they face a difficult test this weekend.

“We know all about Gateshead having already had the two games against them,” admitted Shackleton.

“They’re a very good side who we’ll need to respect, but at the same time we have beaten them in this campaign it’s a game we know could go either way.”

Shackleton will be without captain Alex Saunders for Sunday’s big game, whilst he is also sweating on the fitness of top scorer Autumn Colledge ahead of kick-off.

Sunday’s home game will be played at New Ferens Park in Durham where entry will be just £2 so if you can get along to support the team we know they would appreciate it.
