Moors Ladies are in action at The Brewery Field on Sunday as they play host to promotion rivals Hartlepool United in a massive game in NERWFL Northern Division (2pm kick-off).
Pools currently sit top of the table but Moors – in fourth – are just two points behind with three games in hand so the result of Sunday’s encounter could prove very significant in the race for the title.
Moors are unbeaten in the league since October and come into the game on the back of a brilliant 5-1 destruction of Gateshead last time out so confidence will be high as they prepare for Pools.
“Hartlepool are a dangerous team; you’re not at the top of the table without good players,” warned Moors boss Billy Shackleton.
“I was part of the club there last season, along with Brent, and we know that they’re aside with a point to prove after coming down to the Northern Division.
“We’ll have to be at our best on Sunday but I would like to think we’ve improved significantly since we were beaten by them on the opening day and they will be aware they’ll be in for a game.”
Moors top scorer Autumn Colledge, who hit the net twice in the win over Gateshead, is available for selection on Sunday, while Lily Jackson will be raring to go after smashing a hat-trick last Sunday.
However, there is disappointment for Sophie Farrugia who won’t be part of the squad this weekend after picking up an injury in training on Monday night.
“Playing at The Brewery Field is massive for us,” added Shackleton.
“We are hoping to have a good number of fans there again, the pitch is amazing and you can literally feel the extra energy at the ground which transmits to the players.
“After getting 300 there last game and having some of the men’s team come to support us in the past too, we’re hoping that there’ll be another bumper crowd on Sunday to cheer the girls on.”
Admission is just £3 with Under-12s getting in for free. Cash and card turnstiles are available on the day, but supporters can buy in advance if they wish by clicking here.
