Moors Ladies stand on the brink of promotion to the NERWFL Premier Division ahead of Sunday’s game against Pools Youth Women at The Brewery Field (2pm kick-off).
Having gone 15 games unbeaten in the league, Billy Shackleton’s side now need just one more win to clinch their place at a higher level – and are hoping to do it on home soil in front of a big crowd this weekend.
Pools Youth won’t let them have it all their own way though and Moors will have to ensure they’re on their game against a visiting side who were close to causing an upset against high-flying Wallsend last week.
Shackleton has called for focus ahead of Sunday’s game and is hoping a strong home support can help push his players over the line to get the result they need.
“It’s only natural to feel nervous,” Shackleton admitted.
“We have hoped all season that a day would come where we’d be able to secure promotion; we’ve had ups and downs but we’re where we believe we deserve to be.
“Now we just need to make sure we enjoy the occasion rather than letting it get to us and go out and get three points.”
Moors should have a strong squad available to them for Sunday’s game, with Holly Middleton and top scorer Autumn Colledge expected to be passed fit despite sitting out some training this week.
Admission prices for the game on Sunday are just £3 for adults and it’s free for Under-12s so make sure you get along to The Brewery Field and cheer the lasses on as they go for glory!
