Preview: Moors v Farsley Celtic

We turn our attentions to a potentially dramatic afternoon at The Brewery Field with a full and in-depth preview of Farsley Celtic’s National League North visit.

Spennymoor Town v Farsley Celtic
Saturday 29th April 2023, 3pm
National League North
The Brewery Field

In Opposition
Farsley Celtic arrive at The Brewery Field hoping to secure their survival in National League North on the final day for the second season in succession.

Russ Wilcox’s side know they need a point to absolutely guarantee their status, but defeat to Moors coupled with results for Kettering Town and Blyth Spartans would send them down.

Having battled so hard to get out of the bottom four, The Celt Army will be determined to finish the job off and they travel to County Durham on the back of a gutsy 2-1 win over Gloucester City last time out.

The first half of the campaign was a tough one for the team, but they tasted defeat just five times between the beginning of December and the end of February and now have survival in sight.

One To Watch
Frank Mulhern will be keen to impress on his return to The Brewery Field having left the Club last February before penning a deal with Farsley Celtic.

The front man was on target from the penalty spot when the sides met at The Citadel earlier in the season and will need to be well marshalled on his return to the North East this weekend.

Head To Head
This weekend’s game will be the sixth competitive meeting between the two sides and Moors have won three of the previous five encounters.

Jason Ainsley’s men did the double over Farsley last season but had to come from two goals down to rescue a point when they made the trip to The Citadel earlier this term.

Farsley’s last visit to The Brewery Field resulted in a 6-0 defeat.

On The Whistle
The man in the middle for this weekend’s big game will be John Mulligan, and he will be assisted by Stephen Beresford and Dan Ranson.

Saturday’s game is not segregated and both home and away supporters can buy their tickets in advance right now by heading to our Online Tickets Portal.

We will also have cash and card turnstiles in operation ahead of kick-off on Saturday.

Live Coverage
If you can’t get along to the game this weekend then you can keep right up to date with the action (and all the potential twists and turns!) by joining us for live commentary on Durham OnAir.

Mark Simpson and Billy Shackleton will be live from The Brewery Field from 2.50pm with supporters able to access the live coverage online, via the Durham OnAir app, on DAB radio or on Freeview Channel 277.

Moors have been installed as 4/5 favourites for three points on Saturday, while visitors Farsley are a 11/4 shot and you can back the game ending in a draw at odds of 5/2.
