Jamie Chandler has completed his second summer signing after holding off strong competition to secure the services of midfielder Sam Fielding following his departure from Bradford (Park Avenue).
The 24-year-old emerged as one of Chandler’s top transfer targets when he became available at the end of last season and the Moors boss has now clinched a deal to bring him to The Brewery Field.
Fielding was born in York and came through the ranks with his hometown club to make his full senior debut for The Minstermen against Braintree Town in October 2016 at the age of just 17.
His eye-catching progress alerted other clubs and the talented midfield man earned a move to Barnsley the following year and he remained at Oakwell until 2020.
Fielding was then snapped up by ambitious League Two outfit Salford City where he spent a season before making a return to York City for the 2021/22 campaign.
Last January he made the switch to Bradford (Park Avenue) for whom he scored a wonder goal against Moors at The Brewery Field in their 2-0 win in April 2022.
“Sam is a great character who has good experience at this level and a fair bit higher as well,” said Chandler.
“He has excellent technical ability, and he can play in a couple of different positions so he’s very flexible in that regard.
“One thing that struck me about Sam is that he’s very ambitious. He’s got a real desire to progress and develop so I am delighted that he’s chosen Spennymoor as the club where he does that.”
Fielding’s move to Moors for 2023/24 is subject to the usual clearance from The Football Association and National League.
