The Club is pleased to announce that Billy Shackleton has signed a new one-year contract to remain as Manager of Spennymoor Town Ladies into the 2023/24 campaign.
Shackleton arrived at The Brewery Field last summer following a spell on the coaching at Hartlepool United Women and immediately began assembling a squad that would be capable of challenging for promotion.
Moors Ladies achieved their goal on the back of a stunning 18-game unbeaten run in North East Regional Women’s Football League Northern Division to win a place in next season’s Premier Division.
Shackleton’s achievements were drawing attention from other clubs, but the B Licence qualified coach has now pledged his future to Moors by penning an official contract at the Club.
“After the way my first season at Spennymoor went I always wanted to stay and lead the Club into the higher level,” Shackleton told us.
“The last year has been such an enjoyable experience and the players have got to take all the credit because they really took on board everything we have tried to do.
“There is a winning mentality about the group we have here now and, having won promotion to the Premier Division, I am confident we can have another successful season.
“Naturally, playing at a higher level will bring new challenges but we have been given fantastic backing from the Football Club, we have a dedicated group of staff and a fantastic squad of players.
“We’re all really excited to see what is in store during 2023/24 and I am delighted to be part of it.”
Moors’ Managing Director, Ian Geldard is equally pleased to have agreed a deal to keep Shackleton at The Brewery Field and is looking forward to continuing to support the Ladies Team next term.
“There’s been such a feelgood factor around women’s football across this country, especially on the back of the Lionesses winning the Euros last summer,” Geldard commented.
“And we’ve seen that here at The Brewery Field too because the popularity of our Ladies Team continues to soar, and it was fantastic to see growing crowds get behind them as they went for promotion last season.
“We are very strong on the ‘One Club’ mentality here at Spennymoor Town and I am thrilled that Billy will be staying as the figurehead for Moors Ladies and I’m sure we can have another enjoyable campaign in 2023/24.”
