Moors Ladies have added another new face to their squad for the 2023/24 campaign after completing a move for highly rated young goalkeeper Sophie Miller.
The 23-year-old has spent the last 15 years with Chester-le-Street United where she also had a coaching role, but she has now opted to join Moors as they prepare for their debut season in the Premier Division.
A talented goalkeeper who is well known at this level of women’s football, Miller is a strong shot-stopper and is also noted for her excellent distribution.
Miller’s move to The Brewery Field comes on the back of a terrific performance against Moors last term which clearly left a lasting impression on boss Billy Shackleton.
“I am absolutely delighted that Sophie has agreed to join us for the upcoming season,” Shackleton admitted.
“I have watched Sophie for a few seasons now and it’s clear to see how good a goalkeeper she – I have no doubt that, alongside our own Alex Saunders, she will have been the best keeper in the division last year and she is at an age where she can only get better.
“Moors fans may remember Sophie from the game she played against us at The Brewery Field back in October when she did nothing but frustrate me because she was absolutely brilliant.
“We have had to fight off a bit of competition to sign her this season but from the minute we met up and spoke at the end of last season we knew this was a perfect fit for both parties.
“It shows what we’re building that players of Sophie’s calibre want to join us, and I can’t wait getting Sophie in during pre-season to work under the guidance of our Goalkeeper Coach, Lee Walker.”
