Moors Win Twice On Super Saturday

Moors continued their encouraging form during pre-season with victories over Newcastle United Under-21s and Hebburn Town on Super Saturday at The Brewery Field.

During a packed afternoon of football which also saw Moors 2013 Wembley heroes go up against their FA Vase Final opponents Tunbridge Wells, Jamie Chandler’s men looked strong once again in their two friendly workouts.

Having watched the young Magpies draw 0-0 with Hebburn in the opening fixture of the football extravaganza, Moors were comfortable winners as they took to the field against Newcastle.

First, Will Harris scored his first goal for the Club with a sweet strike on his left foot which flashed past the keeper and into the bottom corner of the net for 1-0.

The 25-minute contest was then settled by Rob Ramshaw when he slid in to get on the end of Glen Taylor’s teasing ball in from the left after another good piece of football from Moors.

Chandler’s side then went head-to-head with Hebburn, and they went in front just before the end of the first 35-minute period when great work from Harris saw Mark Anderson teed up for a strike from 25 yards which flew in off the inside of the post.

It was 2-0 early in the second half when the lively Connor Shanks escaped into space through the middle to fire on goal and, when his initial shot was saved, he reacted quickest to score from the rebound.

Hebburn had the chance to reduce the arrears when they were awarded a penalty but Moors’ trialist keeper guessed right and dived to his right to produce a good save and protect the 2-0 advantage.
