Moors stormed up to second in the National League North table as goals from Danny Greenfield and Will Harris steered them to a late victory at Peterborough Sports on Saturday.

Jamie Chandler’s side had defended with real determination to protect their clean sheet at PIMS Park and, after drawing the sting of their hosts, struck with a clinical edge to secure their third win in four.

James Montgomery was the busier of the two keepers during a scrapy first half and was forced in to a wonderful fingertip save to deny Dan Jarvis whose firm strike was heading into the roof of the net.

The Moors stopper also did well to get down low to his right to deny Jordan Nicholson, while Will Harris drew a save from home keeper Peter Crook with a diving header at the other end.

The hosts came out strongly at the start of the second half and flashed a couple of dangerous balls across the face of the Moors goal as they looked to bounce back from a midweek defeat at Alfreton Town.

Moors’ problems were compounded when in-form defender Michael Ledger was forced off five minutes after the restart and the home side could have gone in front from Hugh Alban Jones’ drive which was deflected over by the brilliant Ben Pollock.

Things began to get a bit scrappy as Peterborough Sports ran out of ideas and Chandler’s men sensed their chance. Mark Anderson’s free-kick from the right was powerfully headed on goal by Glen Taylor and when the effort bounced back off the bar, Greenfield was there to nod home in front of a jubilant travelling support.

Taylor could have been on the scoresheet himself shortly afterwards when substitute Corey McKeown escaped down the right and cut the ball back to the edge of the box but the Moors striker’s low shot was well saved by Crook.

However, the points were clinched three minutes from time. A ball forward was flicked on by Taylor, releasing Harris through the middle of the home side’s defence and he placed home his third goal in as many games to secure the victory.
