Moors Ladies kick-off their NERWFL Premier Division season on Sunday when they make the short trip to take on Hartlepool United at Grayfields Pavilion (2pm kick-off).
Billy Shackleton’s side have been planning all summer for the start of the new campaign after winning promotion to the Premier Division in fine style last term.
Now the challenge that lies ahead is to assert themselves at a higher level and that begins with the journey to Hartlepool on the opening day for the second season in succession.
Pools were promoted from the Northern Division alongside Moors in 2022/23 and both clubs have strengthened their squads significantly ahead of the big kick-off on Sunday.
Shackleton has brought seven new signings through the door during the summer and will be hoping they can build on their brilliant 3-0 League Cup win at South Shields a fortnight ago when they travel to Hartlepool this weekend.
“We know all about Hartlepool and we know they’re a good side,” the Moors boss told us.
“Craig Bage has put together a strong squad for the new season and it will be interesting to go up against them on the opening day, given we’ve both been in the same boat in terms of building for the Premier Division.
“It would be brilliant to see plenty of Moors fans there to cheer us on this weekend. The noise they made in backing us at Shields was unreal, so we’d love to have more of that at Hartlepool.”
Fans can enjoy the game at Grayfields Pavilion for free this Sunday where kick-off is at 2pm.
