Moors’ Academy got their first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon as they thumped Macclesfield Whites 10-1 in National Youth League North Division One at The Brewery Field.
Having tasted heavy defeats during away trips to Barnsley and Burnley in their first two games of the campaign, the youngsters hit back in fine style to earn their first three points of 2023/24.
The damage was done by Owen Robertson (2), Morgan Campbell (2), Leighton Hope (2), Ethan Tate, Travis Dixon, Alex Beattie and an own goal as the visitors were soundly beaten in County Durham.
“It’s great to get our first win of the season, more so for the lads themselves,” admitted Academy Manager, Gavin Cogdon.
“We’ve had some difficult games to start but hopefully that result gives them a little bit of extra confidence as we move forward.
“It was really pleasing to see some of the things we’ve been working on in training come out on matchday, so I am delighted for the players that they got that positive outcome.
“The interesting thing is that all of these lads playing for us have just left school and they’re coming up against players who are potentially as old as 19.
“It was always going to be tough for us during this first year, but I can’t speak highly enough about the attitude and commitment they have shown in the opening weeks.”
Moors’ Academy side return to action next Wednesday when they’re back on the road for a North Division One clash against Leeds United (1.30pm kick-off).
