Ladies Knocked Out Of County Cup

Moors Ladies were knocked out of the Durham County Cup on Sunday afternoon as they were beaten 3-0 by local rivals South Shields at New Ferens Park.

Boss Billy Shackleton, who missed the game through illness himself, had a number of injury problems to contend with and also looked to rotate his squad for the County Cup tie.

The game started poorly for Moors as Shields came out of the traps quickly to raid down the right and fire home the opening goal of the game with less than a minute on the clock.

Moors were also dealt another blow with the loss of defender Neve Jackson to a injury before the visitors doubled their lead on the quarter-hour mark.

Injury struck again as Meg Foster was forced off with an ankle problem as the afternoon continued to go from bad to worse for Shackleton’s side.

Becca Drinkald had a half chance to pull a goal back just before the break while young striker Lily Jackson saw an effort cleared off the line during the second half.

However, Shields added a third goal in injury time to add gloss to their victory and fully secure their safe passage into the next round of the County Cup.
