Preview: Moors v South Shields

We bring you the full lowdown as Moors prepare to play host to South Shields in National League North at The Brewery Field on Tuesday evening.

Spennymoor Town v South Shields
National League North
Tuesday 14th November 2023, 7.45pm
The Brewery Field

The Opposition
South Shields have raised a few eyebrows with their impressive form so far this season having been promoted last term as Northern Premier League Premier Division champions.

Julio Arca arrived in the summer to succeed his former Sunderland teammate Kevin Phillips in The Mariners’ dugout and he is being assisted by former Moors coach and Manager Tommy Miller.

Shields have enjoyed an excellent start to the fresh campaign, particularly on home soil where they have won eight of their nine league outings so far and conceded just one goal.

However, they haven’t always taken that form on the road with them and have won just once away from home – arriving at The Brewery Field this evening off the back of a 1-0 weekend loss at Southport.

The Mariners are a place above Moors in third spot in the National League North table, but Lewis Dickman’s men can leapfrog their visitors with victory on home soil this evening.

Previous Meeting
Tonight will be the first ever competitive meeting between the two clubs.

Team News
Ben Pollock is available again after serving a three-match suspension, while Mark Anderson is also in contention after missing Saturday’s win at King’s Lynn Town through a one-game ban.

James Montgomery and Michael Ledger will have their fitness assessed ahead of kick-off, while Owen Gallacher will hope to return after sitting out the weekend game due to illness.

Match Officials
Ben Tomlinson will be the man in the middle for Tuesday night’s contest at The Brewery Field, and he will be assisted by Scott Henry and Matthew Malton.
