High-flying Moors Ladies have further boosted their squad by clinching the signing of experienced former professional Abi Kisby.
The versatile Kisby has previously played for the likes of Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion, as well as local outfits Sunderland and Durham, while she also enjoyed a spell playing in Iceland.
Kisby has now been tempted out of retirement to join Moors’ maiden NERWFL Premier Division campaign and boss Billy Shackleton is thrilled by the news.
“Abi is a player we have known about for a long time but always struggled to get her signature, so we’re delighted that she has decided now is the right time to join Spennymoor,” he commented.
“It’s no secret that we have struggled a little with injuries so far this season, so Abi’s versatility and experience will certainly help us on that front and I know all of the girls can learn from her.
“The fact that an ex-professional footballer has agreed to join us shows what we are building here and highlights the fact that we’re always looking to improve and grow.”
Kisby will now go straight into contention for a place in the Moors squad when they make the trip to Chester-le-Street Town for Sunday’s exciting Women’s FA Cup Second Round tie.
“This Club has a fantastic atmosphere, they’re doing really well so far this season, and it just seems like a great fit for me,” explained Kisby.
“Having been retired for a few years, I am really looking forward to getting back into football and I am excited to be doing it with a group of players who are fantastic technically and have great personality.
“I might not have the pace I once had but hopefully I can make up for that with hard work – I want to get back to match fitness as soon possible, get to know the team more and hopefully score a few goals along the way.”
Kick-off at Chester-le-Street Town on Sunday is 1pm and entry is £5 for Adults, £3 for Concessions and free for Under-16s who attend with an Adult.
