Ladies Focused On More FA Cup Magic

Moors Ladies are back on the Women’s FA Cup trail on Sunday when they make the trip to face Chester-le-Street Town in Round Two of the famous competition (1pm kick-off).

It’s their biggest obstacle yet in a memorable run which has seen them defeat Ponteland United in the qualifiers before securing a dramatic last-gasp victory over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road earlier in the month.

Chester-le-Street were NERWFL Premier Division champions last season and are now plying their trade in the Women’s National League Division One so Billy Shackleton’s side will know they have their work cut out this weekend.

However, a local fixture means they should be able to rely on plenty of vocal support at Moor Park on Sunday and Shackleton is hoping that can help inspire his players.

“This won’t be an easy tie – but at this stage of the competition, I don’t think there were going to be many that were,” he admitted.

“We know they’re a good side who won our division last season so they’ll be dangerous and we’ll have to be at our very best if we want a result.

“The support we had at Blackpool was superb, it means so much to us and I genuinely believe it gives us an advantage on the pitch.”

Shackleton will be without Alex Saunders for Sunday’s exciting tie, whilst Alice Welch-Davison, Beth Enguita, Katy Hemmingway and Neve Jackson all look likely to remain sidelined through injury.

New signing Abi Kisby will go straight into the squad for the weekend game and the experienced attacker could be in line to make her Moors Ladies debut against Chester-le-Street.

Kick-off at Moor Park is at the slightly earlier time of 1pm where entry is £5 for Adults, £3 for Concessions and free for Under-16s when accompanied by a full-paying Adult.
