Academy Make It Three Wins In A Row

Moors Academy secured their third successive win on Wednesday as goals from Leighton Hope and Morgan Campbell securing a 2-0 triumph at Yorkshire Amateurs.

The high winds ensured a tricky afternoon for both teams but Moors – employing a new 3-5-2 formation – were the first to take advantage of the conditions and got on the front foot during the opening exchanges.

Midfielder Ben Cook raced clear of the home defence and, as the offside flag stayed down, he calmly rounded the goalkeeper only to see his shot blocked on the line by a recovering defender.

Moors kept up the pressure with a flurry of corners, before Callum Dale’s precise free-kick caused huge problems for the hosts’ backline and Campbell profited to score the opening goal on 11 minutes.

A lack of concentration from the restart could have seen Yorkshire Amateurs grab an instant leveller but a superb and well-timed tackle from Brandon Neely was enough to thwart the home side.

Moors broke quickly on the loose ball with more great work from Campbell freeing Hope to run one-on-one with the keeper before producing a majestic finish over the keeper to double the lead with just 15 minutes on the clock.

During the course of the season so far, Moors have struggled to maintain attacking momentum in games, but they looked to determined to change that on Wednesday and created two further good opportunities to score as Hope could even have helped himself to a second successive hat-trick.

The wind seemed to drop a little after the break which helped Moors further and they capitalised on that with a strong and disciplined display which made it difficult for the home side to break them down.

Keeper James Brown impressed between the sticks when called upon, while Moors defended with real determination in front of him to snuff out any dangerous attacks from Yorkshire Amateurs, who had started the day sitting fourth in the table.

Moors maintained a threat on the counter-attack and could even have made it 3-0 when another chance was engineered for Hope but this time the home keeper did well to save.

Lewis Stapleton’s performance on the right side of the back three earned him the Man of the Match plaudits as he remained calm and composed to help Moors claim another excellent three points.
