Moors Ladies will be aiming to build on their wonderful win at Alnwick Town last time out when they play host to Barnsley at New Ferens Park on Sunday (2pm kick-off).
Billy Shackleton’s side remained fifth in the NERWFL Premier Division following their 3-2 triumph in Northumberland, but The Tykes offer a different kind of challenge this weekend.
The Oakwell outfit are among the form teams in the division and underlined their progress with an eye-catching win over South Shields last time out.
Moors took a point from a 1-1 draw when the sides clashed in South Yorkshire earlier in the season and Shackleton is expecting another competitive encounter on Sunday.
“We know we will be facing one of the league’s top sides this weekend,” he told us.
“They will be fancying themselves as potential title contenders based on their current form and the results that they have achieved certainly shows they deserve to be in the conversation.
“We will have a strong side available though, so it won’t be easy for them either and we always feel confident when we’re at home.
“We are used to New Ferens Park and the surface there so hopefully we can use that to our advantage by getting the ball moving with pace and look to exploit their weaknesses.
“I am looking forward to it because it has all the makings of an exciting game.”
Shackleton will have a strong squad to choose from this weekend, though they will have to do without influential midfielder Courtney Mole who is unavailable.
Sunday’s game at New Ferens Park kicks-off at 2pm and fans are welcome to attend, with admission priced at just £3 – though Under-12s can gain entry for free.
