Ladies Ready For Top Of Table Battle

Moors Ladies are preparing for another exciting and potentially decisive fixture on Sunday as they make the trip to face leaders Wallsend in the NERWFL Premier Division (2pm kick-off).

Billy Shackleton’s side moved up to second in the table on the back of last weekend’s astonishing 8-2 destruction of South Shields at The Brewery Field.

Moors are just one point behind their hosts ahead of Sunday’s action, but Wallsend do have three games in hand, so this weekend’s clash takes on an added importance.

Wallsend have been one of the most impressive and consistent sides in the division this term, tasting defeat just once and winning 11 of their 14 outings so far in 2023/24 to emerge as favourites for the title.

“It’s not an easy place to go,” admitted Shackleton.

“We know how good Wallsend are and away games are always that little bit trickier, but we’re in a good run ourselves right now and I feel like we’re playing near our best.

“We have a strong squad available, and I think we have a good chance if we all perform to the standards we have been in recent weeks.

“This season has been fantastic for us so far – if you’d have told me we’d be in the hunt at this stage before the campaign started, I would have had my doubts.

“But I know how good this team is and how hard the girls are working to keep the Club progressing.”

Shackleton is set to be without forward Abi Kisby this weekend, while Meg Foster, Coral Colledge and Julia McGovern are all sidelined through injury.

If you want to head along to support Moors Ladies on Sunday, then the game is taking place at Kirkley Park (NE28 8SX) and kick-off is at 2pm.
