Ladies Eye Progress In League Cup

Moors Ladies take a break from NERWFL Premier Division action on Sunday to focus on a trip to Sunderland West End in the League Cup quarter-finals (2pm kick-off).

Having opened up a three-point gap at the top of the table, now Billy Shackleton’s side will be aiming to extend their run in the League Cup as they fix their eyes on a place in the last four.

West End have had the edge when it comes to games against Moors this term, having completed a league double in two tightly contested encounters.

However, Moors are in strong form and approach this Sunday’s meeting on the back of six successive wins and feeling confident they can make progress.

“We know what Sunderland West End are about and they’re a difficult side to play,” Shackleton told us.

“We’ve lost twice to them but in both games, I felt like we were close to picking up a different result.

“They are a physical team who will be well organised and have the home advantage, which can be a big factor for teams in our division, so we know we’ll have to perform well.

“The league is our obvious priority, but we’d be stupid not to give the cup a good go – and to be two games out from a Final will give the girls motivation for Sunday.”

Shackleton will have a strong squad to select from, with only Abi Kisby set to be unavailable from those that featured in last weekend’s big win over Wakefield.

It’s a 2pm kick-off and entry is set at £3 with fans asked to keep an eye on Moors Ladies’ social media channels for more information surrounding the tie and the venue.
