Moors Academy side extended their unbeaten run to seven games as they collected a point from a hard-fought encounter with Yorkshire Amateur at Consett on Wednesday.
Matty Dolan’s side have been in impressive form in recent weeks and went into their North Division encounter at Belle View in good spirits.
They could have snatched an early lead too, when Zak Blair’s teasing delivery found the dangerous Leighton Hope in the middle, but his header flew just over the bar.
There was an early setback when injury forced Ethan Tate off the pitch, and his replacement Dan Atkinson almost made an immediate impact when he sent Hope through on goal only for the forward to plant his shot wide of the target.
Morgan Campbell was dictating play for Moors from the middle of the back three, spraying some lovely passes around the pitch as Dolan’s youngsters finished the first half strongly.
However, the visitors could have gone in ahead at the break had Moors keeper James Brown now produced an excellent save from a long-range effort.
There was another opportunity for Hope at the beginning of the second period when he escaped through one-on-one with the goalkeeper but just couldn’t force the ball home to continue his exceptional recent scoring run.
Hope beat the offside trap again on 77 minutes only to be denied by a fine save from the Yorkshire Amateur keeper as they pressed for a winner.
However, Moors survived a late scare when the visiting side worked the ball into a worrying position inside the penalty area and Brown was forced into another brilliant point blank save.
In the end both sides had to be content with the draw as Moors finished their season unbeaten in seven and having taken an encouraging 17 points out of the last available 21.
“I am very happy with that performance from the lads, and I thought we were very unlucky not to pick up all three points,” Dolan told us afterwards.
“They have all been fantastic from the minute I came in and I have been impressed by how they have taken on board all the things we have asked of them.
“To a man, they have been a credit to themselves and the Club in the way they have handled themselves and hopefully now they can enjoy the break from football during the summer.”
