Moors Ladies bring another memorable campaign to a close on Sunday when they make the trip to face Harrogate Town in the NERWFL Premier Division (2pm kick-off).
Billy Shackleton’s side have enjoyed an excellent first season at a higher level after winning promotion last term and they have not looked out of place at all in the NERWFL top flight.
Indeed, their continued progress has been underlined by the fact that they go into their final game of 2023/24 still holding on to slim hopes of securing a second successive elevation.
Moors currently sit top of the league, but Barnsley are level on points and have three games remaining, while South Shields and Wallsend are just two points behind and also have game in hand.
Harrogate were brushed aside 6-0 when the sides met in County Durham earlier in the season, but Shackleton has warned his players that they cannot afford any slip in standards on Sunday.
“We want to finish the season on a high and if we can end the day still sitting top of the league then that will make me very happy,” the Moors boss told us.
“It’s been a brilliant season, but it’s been very, very long. I’m looking forward to closing the final chapter of this campaign and celebrating another successful year with the girls.
“Harrogate will be up for it on Sunday though, so we need to make sure we’re on form if we want the three points – it won’t be easy, but we know we’re capable of getting a result.”
Shackleton must make plans without Hannah Knox who is unavailable this weekend, while forward Abi Kisby also looks set to miss out along with the injured Meg Foster and Coral Colledge.
Moors fans are welcome to travel and support the team on Sunday with further details available on the Ladies’ social media channels.
Following the game, the squad will be heading back to The Brewery Field where they will toast another strong season with a celebratory barbecue, to which all supporters are invited.
