Rob Ramshaw is next in the spotlight this as we ask the midfielder a range of often ridiculous questions and challenge him to entertain us with his answers…
On The Pitch
1 Who is the best player you’ve played with?
I would probably say John Oster; I played with him for a couple of years at Gateshead. It was at the end of his career, but you could still see that he was on a different level. He was a good bloke off the pitch too and very entertaining on a night out!
2 What’s the best goal you’ve ever scored?
It would probably be the one in the Play-Off Final – that’s the one that pops straight into my mind really. Obviously, just the feeling of scoring that goal and the game finishing 1-0 as well, it was amazing.
3 When you were playing with your mates as a kid, which player did you pretend to be?
Good question. I think it was probably Frank Lampard, you know? I liked Chelsea at the time, and he was my favourite player in their squad – and he was obviously a midfielder as well which helped.
4 Which position did you play when you were at school?
I was a striker when I was at school, I think. Having said that, now I am thinking about it, I reckon I was moved all over the place in the school team. They were trying to find my best position!
5 Were you the best player on your school team?
No. We all played a year above and there was a lad in my school called Adam Reach who went on to play in the Championship so I would say he was the best player. There was another lad called Micky Roberts who played as a striker – he was better than me too. I just ran around more than most!
Off The Pitch
1 How many tattoos do you have?
Just the one. It’s on my wrist and it’s my grandma’s birthday. It was something I had done when she sadly passed away and I wanted something to remember her by.
2 What food do you absolutely hate?
Vegetables. Well, green vegetables anyway! Broccoli is the wors but anything green I struggle with. My missus has to properly force me to eat it if we’re having dinner and I am a little bit better these days.
3 What’s your favourite film?
The Shawshank Redemption. I have watched that quite a few times now and I think it gets even better every time. The first time I watched it, it totally shocked me, and it’s always stuck in my head as the best film I have seen.
4 What hobbies do you have?
Golf is the main one, I would say. I have been playing quite regularly for the last nine years but I hurt my shoulder in the game at Sunderland last season and that’s affected my ability to play as often as I would like.
5 What is your favourite television programme?
I have had a few that I have enjoyed over the years. I got really into Prison Break when that came out and I watched all the first few series quite quickly. I did the same with Breaking Bad – I really liked that.
Background Check
1 What was your best subject at school?
I would say Science was my best. I quite liked it because it was more practical most of the time and it felt like I didn’t have to concentrate on it too much. I was shocking at English though – reading books was not for me.
2 What was your favourite television show growing up?
Probably Recess. I think that was the main thing I watched when I was a young lad. Having said that, I did watch a bit of Hannah Montana as well – that’s going to get me some stick, isn’t it? Haha!
3 What was your favourite Christmas present as a child?
I would probably say one of those petrol remote control cars. My brother and me got one of them one Christmas and it was the best thing ever. It only lasted about two days, like because we crashed it into a wall.
4 Which video game was your favourite as a child?
Grand Theft Auto. I loved playing that when I was a kid – I think it’s still going now, isn’t it? I played FIFA quite a bit as well, but I pretty much stopped after lockdown. I think I must have matured during the pandemic!
5 What is the naughtiest thing you did as a child?
We used to go garden hopping pretty much every night along North Lodge Mansions. On this one occasion – and it wasn’t me – my cousin jumped on the top of a shed and the roof fell through. We got into a lot of trouble for that so that was probably up there for the naughtiest.
Would You Rather?
1 Would you rather be three feet taller or three feet smaller?
I would have to go three feet taller, I think. I wouldn’t want to look like Gavin Cogdon, would I? Haha!
2 Would you rather be able to speak any language fluently or be able to talk to animals?
I would love to be able to talk another language, I’ve always wanted to be able to. I know we did French and German at school, but I couldn’t tell you a word of that now!
3 Would you rather be rich and ugly or poor and good looking?
Rich and ugly! Haha! I suppose at least you can still go and do things if you’ve got money so that would be the better option, I reckon.
4 Would you rather have no phone for a month or no car for a month?
No phone for a month. To be honest, I do try to stay off my phone and not be on it as much as I used to be so that would help me!
5 Would you rather always lose or never play?
Never play. I absolutely hate losing, as you can hear from the reaction from all the lads when you first asked this question! It takes me too long to get over defeats so I couldn’t play if we lost all the time.
