Moors Ladies have bolstered their attacking options for the upcoming season with the announcement of new signing, Jess Dawson.

Highly rated Dawson joins the Club after finishing the 2022/23 season as top scorer for Middlesbrough in the National League, earning a place in the Team of the Year in the process.

The winger has a wealth of experience in the women’s game having been a regular scorer for Crewe Alexandra and Hartlepool United in the past before missing last term through injury.

Now fit and firing once again, Dawson represents an exciting addition to Billy Shackleton’s squad and will enhance the firepower of an already imposing front line during 2024/25.

Having player under Shackleton and Assistant Manager Brent Smithson during her Pools days, Dawson is now keen to impress again in a black and white shirt next term.

“I know that behind the scenes this club is working hard to achieve big things and really progress in the women’s game,” Dawson told us.

“Their ambition is fantastic, and I know that Billy and Brent can help get me back to my best, especially having been out so long and it was important for me to come into a situation I feel confident in.

“Hopefully I will be able to use my experience to bring goals and attacking play to the team, so I am looking forward to settling into the squad.”

A direct and athletic performer capable of operating on either flank, Dawson is certainly an eye-catching opening signing of the summer as Moors Ladies look to build on their impressive runners-up spot in NERWFL Premier Division last term.

“Jess is a brilliant player and someone I have always wanted to bring to Spennymoor,” added Shackleton.

“She’s a great person and her ability as a player speaks for itself. She’s someone Brent and I have always kept our eyes on and when the opportunity came up to bring her to the Club, I was delighted she accepted.

“To have a player who was top scorer in the National League just a couple of seasons ago shows the direction we’re going in and the sort of quality player we’re looking to bring in to an already strong squad.”
