Junior Mondal scored a wonderful last-minute winner as Moors enjoyed a successful start to pre-season in their first friendly outing at Marske United on Tuesday.
The winger produced the decisive moment at the end of a competitive affair during which Graeme Lee took the opportunity to take a look at some of his younger players and a selection of trialists.
There was an even start to the game with the opening five minutes punctuated only by two crunching tackles from summer signing John Howard who looked keen to set the tone.
Rob Ramshaw had the first sight of goal when he got away through the middle of the home defence and attempted to curl a shot around the keeper who did well to save.
Glen Taylor stung a free kick just wide from long range and also tested the home keeper with a whipped first-time effort just after the half hour which was well held.
The front man could have opened the scoring on the stroke of half time when he leapt highest to meet Matty Dolan’s left-wing corner, but his header dropped kindly for the keeper.
Graeme Lee made ten changes at the break with only the trialist goalkeeper emerging for the second half and Moors wasted no time breaking the deadlock. There were just three minutes gone when the trialist forward seized on some hesitation in the home defence to scamper away down the left and send a calm left-footed finish across the keeper and into the far corner.
Moors were thankful to their trialist keeper on 53 minutes when Marske striker Kyran Clarke found space to drive on goal from the left of the area only for a strong hand to push it over the bar.
The hosts did level things up though just after the hour when Moors failed to deal with a ball into the box from the right and Millen Burnett drilled a precise finish into the net for 1-1.
As thunder and lightning rolled around the stadium, the game rarely produced the same level of drama as both sides toiled for further openings.
The hosts came close when a low ball to the far post was all set to be tucked home before young Moors defender Dan Atkinson came to the rescue with a fine diving block.
And the moment of magic arrived in the final seconds when a ball across to the right was scampered onto by Mondal who then cut inside on to his left foot to deliver a devastating finish across the keeper to win the game.
