Moors were held to a draw during an entertaining and competitive encounter with Stockton Town on Tuesday night as preparations for the new campaign continued.
Graeme Lee’s men were given a stern examination at the hands of their Northern Premier League hosts and the 2-2 scoreline was perhaps a fair reflection of a feisty affair.
It was Stockton who moved into an early lead when former Moors man Owen Gallacher found space on the left of the area and drilled a low finish across Brad James for 1-0.
Moors responded positively and Rob Ramshaw fired a volley into the side netting from a tight angle before turning provider with a great cross for Isaac Fletcher who could only nudge an effort wide.
The equaliser finally arrived just before the break when Fletcher was brought down from behind inside the box and he got to his feet to calmly tuck away the resultant penalty.
Lee’s men went in front for the first time early in the second half when the excellent Fletcher did well on the left before squaring the ball across for Ramshaw to fire home from just inside the area.
The lead didn’t last long though as the hard-working hosts got themselves back on level terms when a cross in from the left was headed home from close-range by Michael Fowler.
Dan Myers battled superbly to win possession on the halfway line and set Moors on the attack, feeding Fletcher who drove positively towards the edge of the box before unloading with a powerful shot which was well saved.
James was then forced into an equally good stop at the other end when former Moors man Stephen Thompson let fly with a ferocious drive from 25 yards which was well pushed away by the keeper.
