Brooke Newton Joins Moors Ladies

Moors Ladies’ summer recruitment drive has continued to build momentum after they held off competition to complete the signing of experience defender Brooke Newton.

The versatile Newton can operate anywhere across the backline and has now become Billy Shackleton’s fifth signing ahead of the 2024/25 NERWFL Premier Division campaign.

Most recently on the books at Middlesbrough where she gained National League and National League Premier experience, Newton’s arrival is an exciting one for Moors in the build-up to the big kick-off in September.

A former Sunderland RTC youngster, Newton’s imposing and commanding style will provide a reassuring presence at the back as Moors look to build on last term’s impressive finish as runners-up.

“I’ve seen the progress that this Club has made over the past couple of seasons and it’s an exciting Club in the area,” Newton told us.

“After speaking with Billy and Brent (Smithson, Assistant Manager), I felt that their ambitions matched mine, the ethos is second to none and they have a great group of girls already here.

“The future feels exciting and it’s something I really wanted to be part of.”

Boss Shackleton is delighted to have persuaded Newton to make a move to The Brewery Field and is certain that her experience at a higher level can pay dividends for Moors.

“I’ve long been an admirer of Brooke,” he admitted.

“She plays with a huge passion; she has a desire to win her battles and she has fought for the team in every game I have seen her play.

“Normally I will try my best to sell the Club to players when I meet them, but Brooke had done all her homework and knew this is where she wanted to be.

“When she expressed that interest in joining the Club, I knew this would be perfect for her, I am sure she will love her time here and she will help us make that next step.”

Newton’s arrival marks another exciting step for Moors Ladies following the signings of Jess Dawson, Amy Elliott, Caitlin Bates and Fearne Brischuk this summer.
